Find Out What’s Happening in Philadelphia This July

July in Philadelphia is not just hot — it's sizzling with a ton of events that’ll make it difficult to have a quiet night in. As Will Rogers once said, “Too many people spend money they haven't earned, to buy things they don't want, to impress people they don't like.” Luckily, the events this July are worth every penny, and you’ll earn some bragging rights with the friends you bring along with you. Let's take a closer look at the best happenings around the city this month.

First up, we have the Philadelphia Zoo’s Summer Ale Festival. This isn't your average zoo trip! Taking place on a balmy July 20th summer evening, you can find yourself sipping on some of the finest craft brews surrounded by exotic animals – and no, we don't mean your rowdy friends. This adults-only event is hosting over 100 award-winning seasonal craft beers and ciders. Pair your bevy with some tasty selections from on-site food trucks and a little live music. And don’t forget the best part—exploring the zoo after hours in an adults-only setting!

If the thought of urban wildlife isn’t your forte, perhaps the Northern Liberties Summer Night Market on July 24th will catch your fancy. From 5 PM to 10 PM, this popular neighborhood erupts with food trucks, beer gardens, vendors, and local crafters. Now normally big on the whole "foodie" thing, because honestly, who doesn't love eating? But I'll make an exception for this – it's a food lover's paradise.

On July 14th, raise a glass to our friends across the Atlantic at the Bastille Day Block Party at Good King Tavern. From noon to 6 PM, have fun with various games like cornhole, a balloon artist, and live music that will have you shouting, "Vive la France!" even if you can’t find France on a map. The Euro Cup final will also be screened live, promising that the soccer fans amongst you will be thoroughly entertained. Par-is, Phil-ly….that’s almost the same thing - right?

For a cultural experience like no other, visit Shofuso Japanese House and Garden for their Tanabata celebration on July 7th. This enchanting festival commemorates the meeting of celestial lovers, Orihime and Hikoboshi. Write your wishes on Tanzaku paper and hang them on bamboo trees, surrounded by traditional Tanabata decorations. It’s a beautiful way to connect with the universe while experiencing a slice of Japanese tradition.

And finally, Franklin Square transforms into a stunning sea of light with the Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival. This festival illuminates the night with dazzling lantern displays, including a show-stopping 200-foot-long dragon. Enjoy authentic Chinese food, cultural performances, and celebrate the Year of the Dragon! Cap off your night with a visit to the Lotus Cocktail Garden for the perfect summer vibe.

So, Philadelphia in July is buzzing with so much to do. You've got plenty of ways to make great memories and have a blast this summer. And if your July gets a little too hot, be sure to check out our article about Philadelphia public pools for some cool relief.
