Winter Wonderland Unveiled: Newtown Square's Award-Winning Ice Rink Returns with a Festive Twist
As the winter chill descends upon Newtown Square, the anticipation for the 2023-2024 season of Flight On Ice's award-winning Ice Skating Rink is palpable. This beloved family-friendly attraction has become a staple in the hearts of Delco residents, captivating audiences for three consecutive years. However, this season promises an even more enchanting experience with the introduction of the outdoor Winter Beer Park, in collaboration with Tired Hands Brewery, and a heartfelt initiative to support local veterans through the Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association.
In a collaborative effort, Flight On Ice, Tired Hands Brewery, and the DCVMA are joining forces to create a winter spectacle that transcends the boundaries of conventional entertainment. Steve Byrne, Executive Director of Visit Delco, commends the collaboration, emphasizing the positive impact on the local economy and tourism that these ventures bring. He states, "With the addition of the Tired Hands Winter Beer Park this year, we expect an even greater impact. When local businesses align to increase visitation and consumer spending in Delaware County, we're all for it and happy to assist!"
The Energy Transfer Veterans Memorial Rink, located at 4901 West Chester Pike, adjacent to the Shoppes at Marville, has rapidly become a community favorite since its debut in 2021, earning accolades such as "Best of Delco 2022 & 2023 Fun Day Family Outing." This year, with the expansion of the Winter Beer Park, Flight On Ice and Tired Hands aim to create a captivating winter wonderland for patrons of all ages.
Jon Schaffer, President of Flight Entertainment, expresses excitement about the collaboration with Tired Hands, stating, "We are always looking for ways to enhance our guest experience, and we are thrilled that Tired Hands has agreed to join us this season." Jean Broillet IV, Owner of Tired Hands, echoes this sentiment, noting the community's embrace of the Beer Park and expressing enthusiasm for its continuation through the winter months.
The winter wonderland promises an array of family-friendly activities, including a weekly makers market, a kids zone, heated tents, an LED TV display, fire pits for S'mores, open-air gazebos, and more. The Winter Beer Park will feature a diverse menu, including hot dogs, nachos, pretzels, popcorn, candy, coffee, hot chocolate, and a bar menu curated by Tired Hands.
Flight is renowned for its lively events, and this season is no exception. The schedule includes the annual Tree Lighting, Eagles Autism Skate, Santa on a Firetruck & Santa on Ice Days, Silent Headphone Skate Parties, Holiday Movie Nights, a Country Christmas with Audra McLaughlin, a Delco Christmas Party with DJ Jay Roy, and a Kids Noon Years Eve Party on December 31st.
In the spirit of giving back, Flight On Ice will donate a portion of the proceeds from this season to support the Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association. To date, Flight on Ice, with the support of Energy Transfer and various sponsors, has raised over $55,000 for the DCVMA, aiding local veterans and the Memorial Site located just blocks away from the rink. Schaffer emphasizes their commitment to the DCVMA's mission, stating, "This season, we will roll out new fundraising programs, including a DCVMA IPA from Tired Hands, to help achieve our goals."
Mark your calendars for the grand opening on Black Friday, November 24th, 2023, and immerse yourself in the magic of the Energy Transfer Veterans Memorial Rink and the Tired Hands Beer Park, which will run through February 25th, 2024. Season passes are available for the entire 2023/24 season, and single-day session tickets for public skating dates will be on sale by November 1st.
