The Best Beer Gardens Open Right Now in Philadelphia

Though it feels like spring plummeted rather than sprang these past few weeks, indeed spring it is. And with that comes the grand reopening of the city’s beloved beer gardens. If you’re just as ready to swap your winter woes for some hoppy highs as I am, here are five spots that promise to at least give you at least concepts of those springy feelings.

Parks on Tap

Why settle for one setting when you can have 27? Parks on Tap is Philadelphia’s traveling beer garden, setting up shop in various parks across the city from April 9 through October 12. It’s like a food truck, but for beer—and with more hammocks. Catch them first at the Azalea Garden near the Art Museum. Check their schedule to find out when they’ll be in a park near you. It’s also the perfect excuse to explore new neighborhoods!

Walnut Garden

Hidden in plain sight at 1708 Walnut Street, the aptly named Walnut Garden features twinkle lights and leafy corners. It’s a beer garden, yes — but it feels like a neighborhood hang, where you can sip a local beer or a spritz and snack on something fried. Grab a seat near the perimeter for prime people-watching, and show up early on the weekend if you don’t want to hover for a spot.

Old City Beer Garden

Located at 240 Market Street, this beer garden combines the charm of historic Philadelphia with a modern outdoor drinking experience. It’s that rare outdoor spot in Old City where you can post up for hours, people-watch, and feel like you’re part of the neighborhood without needing to commit to a full sit-down dinner or a rowdy bar crawl.

PHS Pop Up Garden on South Street

If you’re in the mood for floral cocktails and feeling like a plant parent, the PHS Pop Up Gardens are the move — and luckily, there are two dreamy locations to pick from. On South Street (1438 South St) and over in Manayunk (106 Jamestown Ave). Both spots serve up solid drinks, a surprisingly good food menu, and DIY workshops and plant swaps.

Once you’ve made your way through Philadelphia’s beer garden circuit and soaked up every last drop of sunshine, don’t call it a night just yet.
